This workshop is aimed at doctors in foundation year 2 and it is designed to give doctors an overview of the recruitment and application process, as well as some interactive exercises and practice. The PowerPoint presentation can be downloaded. It is designed as a two-hour workshop, the timings are as follows:

To possess the skills to enable them to make a good decision. To raise awareness of various decision-making exercises

 

Decision-making – the timeline exercise

15 minutes

To use the timeline exercise to give F2s insight to see how they have made good and/or bad decisions in the past

Preparing a medical CV and organising the learning portfolio -

 

15 minutes

· To demonstrate how preparing a CV/organising the learning portfolio can help with the application process

· To be able to work with a format for a medical CV

· How to use the STAR model to fill in an application form

· How to present your evidence

 

Exercise in evidencing skills

10 minutes

Exercise and practice of STAR model

 

Dos and Don’ts in the application process

10 minutes

To raise awareness of some dos and don’ts in the application process

 

Looking at person specifications (group discussion)

10 minutes

· To further practice the STAR model.

· To demonstrate the importance of referring to the person specifications

Total time: 1 hour and 50 minutes (this allows some time for questions at the end).
