Training pathway
Training in General Adult Psychiatry commences
at ST4 level, following three levels of core psychiatry
training.*
Length of training
Specialist training in psychiatry is six
years. Following the successful completion of core psychiatry
training (three years), trainees can specialise in General Adult
Psychiatry, which is a further three years of higher training.
Qualifications
- MBBS OR equivalent medical qualification
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent as approved by
the Royal College of Psychiatrists OR a specialist
qualification in psychiatry from an EU country that complies with
the requirements of EU directive 2005/36/EC
