Since much eye surgery is carried out with the
aid of the operating microscope, it is necessary for
ophthalmologists to have good vision, good hand-eye coordination
and excellent manual dexterity. Also, as ophthalmologists care for
people who have lost their eyesight, an ability to display empathy
and to consider the whole person is mandatory.
