The GMC-approved postgraduate training curricula for general internal medicine is available online.

Training pathway

Trainees complete either core medical training or the acute care common stem in acute medicine (ACCS) and enter training in general internal medicine at ST3 level.*

Length of training

Trainees wishing to hold a CCT in GIM (Acute), and so be eligible to take up a position as a Specialist in Acute Medicine, are required to complete at least a further year of training following successful attainment of Level 2 training.

Person specifications and qualifications

Trainees can enter specialty training in general internal medicine (acute) at ST 3 after sucessful attainment of level 2 core medical or acute care common stem training programmes.  Person specifications, including qualification requirements for entry to these programmes, are available online.
