Postgraduate Training Pathway

Speciality curriculum

The GMC-approved postgraduate training curriculum for Acute Internal Medicine is available.

Training pathway

Trainees can choose to complete either Core Medical Training or Acute Care Common Stem training before applying for ST3 posts in Acute Medicine.

The JRCPTB has detailed information on Acute Medicine

Length of training

Acute Medicine training is competency-based not time-based, but it is anticipated that most trainees will require a four-year training programme from ST3. Many trainees will choose to dual CCT with General Internal Medicine, which increases the training time by approximately one year.  Trainees should seek advice from their Training Programme Director about whether they should seek a single or dual CCT.

Person Specification
