FTSA’s can be useful to allow you to gain further competencies and improve your understanding of a specialty before committing, enabling you to gain more first hand experience in a specialty. It is advised that you discuss this carefully with your Educational Supervisor as there are implications to be considered before going down an FTSA route as the competition to get onto specialty training is greater at higher levels e.g. to Specialty Training 2 (ST2) is more competitive than Specialty Training 1 (ST1).
