(This video lasts just under 10 minutes)
Medical careers spoke to two senior
consultants who were having a quick coffee break to get an insight
into the life of two less familiar specialty choices namely those
of anaesthetics and paediatrics.

Dr Hazel Adams, FRCA is Head of the School
of Anaesthetics at KSS Deanery and has wide experience in her
field.
Dr Peter Martin, MB BS DCH FRCPCH MA is Head of
the School of Paediatrics at KSS Deanery and has 15 years of
experience as a consultant neonatal paediatrician.

Paediatrics and anaesthetics as a career

Both consultants freely admit that they would like to see more
people coming forward to their specialties but that medical
students do not get a lot of time to really experience what a
career in them would be like. In order to increase your knowledge
and to see if these are areas that would appeal they recommend that
anyone should actively seek opportunities to experience time in
paediatrics or anaesthetics.

Both Peter and Hazel talk about the many opportunities for
less than fulltime training and working. Both share personal
experiences of how that works very well in these areas.
They clearly both love their jobs and speak of the high levels
of opportunity, satisfaction and great team working. Thanks to both
Peter and Hazel for sharing their coffe break with Medical
Careers.
