
When you start the Foundation Programme you will
receive an induction which will give you an overview of your
Programme and any local arrangements that exist. You will also get
information on such things as timetable and study days. You will
also be given the details of your Educational Supervisor and
what other local careers support is available to help you
throughout your training.
You will meet many people during your two
Foundation Years and it is important that you build up a network of
links to aid you through the career planning process. Some of the
main people you will come into contact with during your Foundation
Programme are:
The director of medical education is a consultant in the trust
and works for both the Deanery and the hospital. They are
responsible for the management of medical education. They work
closely with clinical tutors and can be a rich source of
information and advice. Can be referred to as a Clinical Tutor.
Oversees the training of a number of Foundation Doctors and has
responsibility for organising teaching programmes.
Have responsibility for your education through the whole year.
You will have regular meetings and they should be your first point
of contact for any concerns about your training.
Is a consultant with responsibility for your teaching and
supervision on your placement. You should have regular meetings
with them during your placement.
Could also be known as Postgraduate Centre
Manager. Runs the postgraduate centre and administers the induction
and educational programmes. They have experience of the hospital
system and can be approached for general advice as you settle into
your Foundation Programme.
