Specialty recruitment 2010
The MMC team has published a Quick Guide
to Recruitment to medical specialty training in 2010. It is a
user-friendly guide which contains information on some of the
things you should be thinking about before you apply. The full
applicant guide to specialty training recruitment 2010 is now
available on the MMC website ready for 4th
December when specialty recruitment round 1 opens in England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The
MMC team have also published the person specifications for the
specialty training
So what can you do before the
recruitment round opens?
You can:
- work through the career planning pages on this website to
familiarise yourself with the 4 stage careers planning model
- make sure you have done an adequate and robust self-assessment
and career exploration (stages 1 and 2 of the careers planning
model). This will really help in the application and in the
interview process. To help you with career exploration, the
specialty pages, on this site which have
been created in collaboration with the Royal colleges give you a
wealth of information about each specialty.
- work through the decision making
stage in the 4 stage planning model. There are some suggested
exercises here to help you choose between specialties
- revise and update your e-portfolio. Having an organised
portfolio will make it easier for you to find the all-important
evidence you need to complete the application forms. You will often
also need it for the interview stage. See our guide to e-portfolios
- prepare and update your CV. See our guide to medical CVs
It is also important to remember that:
- while you are working through the career
exploration stage you also have a plan B, and even a plan C!
Guides to specialty recruitment
We have recently published two guides which provide you with
further information on the application
process and on interviews and Specialty
Selection centres.
N.B. The Quick Guide
to Recruitment emphasizes that you do not leave preparing your
application form to the last minute. Remember it always takes
longer than you think to fill in the form.
We wish you all the best of luck with
your application.
