Careers values

It’s important to understand which activities you value at work and feel are worthwhile, as a sense of everyday ‘worthwhileness’ is a major component of occupational satisfaction.

Work values can fall into a number of different categories. Rob Nathan, a leading occupational psychologist and career counsellor, observed:

‘Values in relation to work represent the degree to which a person regards his or her work as worthwhile. This ‘worthwhileness’ includes the amount of power, autonomy, creativity, learning, altruism, security, status and money which are sought in work.’
