Deciding to do locum work

You may decide to do locum work for many reasons. After the foundation programme you may feel you would like some extra time before deciding which specialty path to take. Specialty trainees may want to take a break from training e.g. between Core and Higher training in the uncoupled programmes. Consultants, specialty doctors and GPs may prefer the flexibility of this type of work and may enjoy the benefits of being self-employed.
